Health and safety at the workplace are important priorities for Knorr-Bremse, and are fully integrated into the company’s business processes.
The central Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department is responsible for all health and safety measures.
Health
Knorr-Bremse organizes a wide ranges of activities aimed at raising awareness of health issues amongst its employees all over the world. “Health days” are regularly held, medical examinations carried out, analyses made of workplace conditions and other activities organized. Some sites even run extensive programs using their own fitness studios, and everywhere there are courses, team sports and special sporting events on offer.
Safety
The working environment of Knorr-Bremse employees is subject to regular risk assessments with a view to introducing technical and organizational improvements to minimize the impact on health and safety of the workforce. Standardized processes and internal audits ensure that minimum standards are set for all Knorr-Bremse sites world-wide.
A cross-divisional campaign aimed at avoiding workplace accidents has been being rolled out since 2005. Activities include site assessments, employee training, information campaigns, risk classification and special protective measures in areas with a high frequency of accidents. Since the program was first launched, the number of accidents resulting in absence from work at production sites has been steadily declining.
