One of the eight UN millennium goals is that by 2015 children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. Since 1999 some progress has been made in this regard. For example the proportion of individuals receiving education in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa has increased by 18 percentage points to 76 %. But for the last three years it has been becoming obvious that the UN goal – despite enormous efforts – will not be achieved by 2015.

Education is the key to finding a way out of the cycle of poverty. Because Knorr-Bremse Global Care wants to give children and adults a hope for the future and help them determine their own, independent lives, an important focus of the organization's work is education and training.
