Helping people help themselves world-wide
Projects are selected according to the principle of helping people to help themselves – the idea being to put them in a position where they can earn their own living independently. Education is a tried-and-tested means of achieving this, but that alone is not enough if the country’s infrastructure is inadequate. And if – as in Zimbabwe at the end of 2008 – an epidemic also breaks out, then emergency aid packages are required to help people survive before there can be any attempt to launch self-help projects.
