Mentoring project for school pupils in Munich North

Project description:
Almost 1/5 of pupils in Munich leave school without any qualification. A combination of problematic social conditions and the difficult situation on the job market means that at a very early age these young people are denied any prospects of professional and personal development.

The “KOMM in die Zukunft“ mentoring project was set up to support those children who would like to improve their educational qualifications. KOMM provides a schoolchild with a mentor from the world of work to assist him or her with making job applications and preparing for interviews. The aim is to help the young people to find a job or to realize the value of a school qualification for gaining access to professional life.

The project partner responsible for implementation of the mentoring project is the association Bürgertreff e.V., which was set up to support structurally weak urban districts in Munich.

Place: Munich districts of Milbertshofen, Am Hart and Freimann.

Status: Project start: November 2007; As the mentors are allocated when the children are in the seventh grade, the project will run at least until 2010.

Local coordination: Hildegard Mayr (Bürgertreff e. V.), Christoph Günter (Knorr-Bremse Global Care e.V.).
