Rebuilding of 75 destroyed Houses in Kalmunai
Project description:
Rebuilding of 75 destroyed Houses supervised by UN-Habitat. Future residents are involved in the construction. The foundation stones for the first houses were laid on May 17, 2006 at a ceremony that generated considerable interest amongst the media and general public. This Knorr-Bremse Global Care funded project is the first and only reconstruction project for houses in the densely populated Saintamarutha region, which was particularly badly hit by the tsunami.
Location: East coast, Kalmunai, Saintamaruthu
Status: Project start: March 2006. The houses will soon be completed.
