Rebuilding of a State Secondary School in Maggona

Project description:
Rebuilding and renovation of the State Secondary School for approx. 300 pupils, the majority coming from poor fishermen and worker families. One of the two school buildings with its entire contents was completely destroyed due to the immediate location next to the sea, the second building had to be renovated.

The new building provides 8 new class rooms and work rooms as well as the respective sanitary installations. Knorr-Bremse has supported an important part of the completion of the construction work, furnishing and fitting out of the school (with pieces of furniture) as well as maintaining the structures for the coming years.

Location: Maggona, West coast, approx. 60 km to the south of Colombo.

Status: official reopening of the school was in September 2005. Additionally the school sport fields were recreated in April 2007.

Coordination on site:
St. Joseph's College in Colombo as sponsor school. The local supervision is the responsibility of Rohan and Oscar Fernando (KB network).
