Following the harrowing events in China and Burma, the Knorr-Bremse Group is providing a total of some € 400,000 for immediate relief and rebuilding projects in Burma and the Chinese province of Szechuan.
In China, where Knorr-Bremse employs 1,075 people at 8 locations, approx. € 300,000 has been allocated to help the earthquake victims. The sum consists of dona-tions from employees in China, local Knorr-Bremse companies and Knorr-Bremse Global Care e.V. € 60,000 has already been handed over to the Chinese Red Cross for immediate measures, with a further € 240,000 earmarked for reconstruction projects, for example schools and houses.
Knorr-Bremse Global Care has donated some € 120,000 to aid organization World Vision for immediate measures to assist the victims of Cyclone Nagris in Burma. The money is being used to provide essential water treatment equipment. On Monday, a World Vision aid flight took off from Frankfurt am Main airport for the disaster area. On board the freight carrier were relief supplies for around 25,000 people, including a package from Knorr-Bremse Global Care comprising 14,000 water canisters, 3.4 million water disinfection tablets and two water treatment plants, including accessories. The aid reached the UN temporary camp in Bangkok today and will be transported to the flooded areas on UN charter flights over the next few days. Knorr-Bremse Global Care is currently discussing further reconstruction projects in the region with World Vision.
